The Eastern Tropical Pacific
WATCH PART 2 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g1t9xTsuljY
The Eastern Tropical Pacific includes national waters of Colombia, Ecuador, Panama, and Costa Rica and is one of the most productive oceans in the world. In April 2004, the four countries signed the San Jose Declaration to seek the support of international and regional organizations to improve stewardship of their shared marine life and environment.
This region comprises renowned World Heritage Sites, such as Ecuador's Galapagos Marine Reserve, Colombia's Malpelo Fauna and Flora Sanctuary, Costa Rica's Cocos Island National Park and Panama's Coiba National Park. Several major oceanic current systems meet in the Seascape, resulting in a unique variety of tropical and temperate marine life—all threatened by global climate change including recent extraordinarily sever El Nino events.
This video presents some of the conservation experiences in the Eastern Tropical Pacific in the areas of protected area management, research and community engagement, surveillance, tourism, and green business. Interviews were taped during a workshop in Machalilla National Park, Ecuador, in June 2007.
