during the dictatorship of the proletariat they would control the economy primarily and stop the middle class from getting back into power. As people get used to the idea of farely (but not mathematically) equal pay and a distributive justice system they stop fighting and the state dissapears due to lack of use.


This is how I understand it, but then I'm a farely new marxist so I've probably missed out key points. I'm not infallible by any means.

your thinking in terms of soviet economics. The whole point of communism is that people do something because they want to do it, not to make money. Anyone can pursue anything they want but they won't gain millions of pounds for doing so. The strong state functions only to protect the new workers state against the middle class. Once the situation is stable, the people of the state eventually step down and the state withers away. This has never happened and your bound to say can never happen, but you can't judge this idea by the actions of a greedy dictator as you have been doing with your other comments upon communism.

I don't profess to bare allegiance to any previous or current communist state but I take your points about capitalist economy. Unfortunatly I haven't started studying economics yet (though I know that your remarks are clearly defended against in the capital) however your point about human corruptability is useless as this implies a concrete part of human nature which shows that we shall always want to exploit but historical materialism teaches that it is our economic environment which defines our consciousness. Throughout history we have lived in systems based on exploitation but this doesn't mean that this is the only way to live.

We are rational beings so why do we advocate a system which allows different classes to exploit each other, destroys the environment and therefore our future and is fundamentally based on the worst of human drives: corruption. Yes, we can't be perfect, but we can be better as a species than this.
