Local elections are due in Ijevan City, Tavush Marz, on October 19, 2008. Forty-four candidates stand for the fifteen posts of the city council. The incumbent mayor Varujan Nersisyan has set high tariffs /18 000 drams per a minute/ for the election campaign on the self-owned local TV Ijevan Studio. In fact, none of the candidates can afford the sum. Meanwhile, the TV Channel broadcasts the campaigns of the Mayors brother Hrach Nersisyan. When asked about the tariffs fixed for the contenders, Director of Ijevan Studio Karen Nersisyan said he couldn't discuss such issues on the phone. ********* And this is a norm for Armenia abt everything...no wonder ppl protest... |
