For those that don't know him, let me introduce you to Shadow aka Susumu Hiwatari, Kai's father. Leader of the brotherhood one of the main antagonists if not the main antagonist of final legacy and this iteration is one of my proudest achievements.
A character that gives beyblade it's very own Madara or Aizen, the leader of the brotherhood order that have been the villains behind both Biovolt and Bega, Shadow himself being the one to sponsor the BEGA league and giving Boris the money to buy out the BBA, Shadow was a rival to the first world champion the legendary Ken Daiba, Shadow a man whose life was consumed by the chase for perfection, a character that takes the generic bad guy set up of the abbey in season 1 and infuses it with an actual philosophy and world view adding flavour and thought to everything you knew before.
His intelligence and power stanf heaf and shoulders above everyone you've ever known as far a beyblading is concerned he's one of the most powerful bladers to have ever graced the earth the best part is i make it as though he was foreshadowed, Kai's father was first mentioned in the japanese version of V Force where Kai's butler tries to tell him to try to have a better relationship with his father. The true depth to their strained relationship cannot be understood immediately but is clearly hinted it, as Kai rather choose to live in the gutter then call up his rich father for help after losing to Brooklyn.
Kai being truly unaware of his fathers involvement in the events that haunted him, Shadow being the one that pitted Kai against Brooklyn in their first match. Romero who trained Kai against Brooklyn was once a student of Ken Daiba, and I won't go into the history of Brooklyn either until this fiinal arc. I have heard plenty of people call Shadow a favorite character of theirs and I can say the same myself...
A villain with the ability to both inspire and frighten, with more tricks up his sleeve then you can count and a direct influence over what's arguably beyblade's most popular character. Shadow have always extended his ideals of perfection onto his son being disappointed in him for never being good enough mixed in with faith in him, expecting him to have the ability to be better. Shadow is curcial for Kai's character arc and growth.
So much is coming now, such as Shadow's return having overcome the one weakness he had which was his age weakening him, He'll be stronger then ever but his mentor Meturato first blader and the immortal having entered a a unholy alliance we've in for some interesting interactions between Boris and Shadow, as well as Shadow and Kai, Shadow and Meturato, Kai and Broooklyn reuniting again for the first time since their fated battle.
There's no doubt a major role for everybody's favorite perfectionist to play and final battle in Shadow's which brings the Hiwatari family's legacy to it's conclution, it's a huge character changing battle I'm excited for, it's time to explore fatherhood and what it means, the question of perfection, overcoming trauma which Kai has already begun to do by contronting black Dranzer and having already confronted his father once... But did Kai's story really close? With Tyson dead what would happen to Kai's own internal drive for perfection and surpassing him...
What will happen with Kai's memories restored about his own training under Meturato? Memories that Meturato stole about what happened when he first wielded black dranzer and the trauma that molded him into who he is... What is to come for Kai's story in the end having failed to step up into the role of carrying on his friends torch...
What will Kai's final flames look like? Their last challenge requires them to match themselves against the god of bey, it's no longer about being the best blader in the modern world being the greatest bey.warrior that ever lived...
This is the arc that's supposed to revive into focus Kai's entire character journey and everything he did, all the opponents he faced both in the original series and final legacy. How will Kai's legacy conclude and what was the true depth and meaning behind his and Tyson's reivalry what ending will it have? As it was basically the core of the story of beyblade.
It'll all come to a close in the most intense arc of this series the long awaited sequel to the Bega arc.
