A very entertaining detailed account of the life of Joseph Smith, organizer of the Mormon Church
|
|
This talk cites and explains Biblical passages warning of the apostasy that began in New Testament times, and it identifies essential characteristics of Christ's church which were lost as the apostasy took place. It then summarizes the historical events in the restoration of the Church and cites Biblical prophecies relating to each of those events. The speaker draws the final conclusion that only The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints fully accepts the reality of the universal apostasy, fulfills biblical prophecies of the restoration, and has the characteristics of the New Testament Church today.

Grnmessiah might as well be asking how darkmatter can exist if you can't see it or measure it, or how can space be created in an expansionary model of the universe if you can't measure what space is made of. Maybe it is all spiritual matter. lol

Just wondering--When the D&C says that we will be resurrected with whatever intelligence that we attain during this life, how does that work?
I thought that memories were stored in the brain; when your brain is decomposed, how would you carry the memories to the next life, assuming (and it's an awfully big assumption) that there is an afterlife? |

I must confess my studies have been wholly centered upon the New Testament for the last year and so the BoM stories have faded. Perhaps it was Korihor who was villianized souly for his beliefs...you know the stories better then I...I leave such studies to you. They're very small issues in the grand scale of doctrinal problems.

in reply....
Have you not read the full account of Gideon in Alma chapter 1? Gideon an innocent man, was murdered by the hands of Nehor in cold blood. We do not have any laws today that will allow a man to take the life of another and not have consequences to pay for it . If you read the entire chapter in Alma chapter 1 in the BofM you will find that the aggressor was a wicked man against an innocent man of God. Gideon was old in years but righteous and Nehor took Gideons life in a fit of anger because of the words he spoke, You mention the right of free speech if anything.. Nehor took away Gideons free right of speech by killing him with the sword. Yes, the aggressor was Nehor an unrighteousness man, towards Gidon who was an innocent man and a very righteous, good and honorable man of God . Do you think there should be no consequence for murder in the first degree. please read the full account my friend, I think you have it wrong. |

Skyaglow,
I appreciate your thoughts. I would strongly protest to the concept that the non-believers in the Book of Mormon were some how the aggressors in this situation. If you recall the examples of Nehor and Korohor they would be perfectly well within rights in modern America because their crime was freedom of speech. They simply spoke to what they believed and they were attacked and killed for it. Now, you can justify all you want the actions of the people at the time, but in our modern setting here in the western world we would have to say that the BoM believers in God were murdering those who were expressing their right to free speech. How doing that can be spun into an act of self defense is something I find morally objectionable. Andrew |

and.... In righteousness, the Lord will give one power over there enemies.
That's one of the beauties and miracles of the Gospel of Christ He upholds his people and followers in their righteousness, to confound their enemies. What a great promise and blessing that is! |
