SATURDAY JUNE 14th, 2008 1pm-5pm 1260 Dufferin St, Toronto, ON Canada Everyone Welcome !!
Hoping for a better weather forecast !
Jamie Burke and Chris Silva are working for the City of Toronto Parks Forestry and Recreation Department at the Wallace Emerson Community Centre on the BMX Bike Park as summer jobs. They will be teaching BMX Skills to kids, and helping out with the BMX Bike park all summer.
Jamie and Chris recently installed new art work done by Graffiti Artist Kedre Browne aka BUBBLZ on a quarter at the BMX Bike Park.
The art work known as 'The Human Bird'. It is the Toronto Blue Jays logo done over a BUBBLZ piece.-- See video of Bubblez and Phade painting this art work at the event called http://streetimpact.ca at Yonge and Dundas Square in April, 2008 on YouTube here:

Jamie does some riding after the interview.. and goes up the "Human Bird" quarter and becomes a bit of a 'Human Bird' himself..... The crank on his bike breaks and he wipes out.. Thankfully he was not hurt... !
What is the first thing Jamie does after he breaks his crank ?? .. calls the manufacturer of course... to get a new one as soon as he can.. You fall down, you get up .. you carry on .. you do your best !... Way to go Jamie !

BMX Bike Park open for kids to ride at Wallace Emerson Community Centre, 1260 Dufferin St, Toronto, ON Canada.
Rebuilding from an Easter Weekend Fire is almost complete...
Thanks for the close to $2,000 in donations to help the rebuild... We are 1/3 of the way there in raising the money needed to cover the supplies for the rebuilding..
BMX Rider Chris Silva is working for the summer of 2008 for the City of Toronto Parks Forestry and Recreation Department. He is seen in this video sweeping up water after a rain to make the park safe to ride. There is a problem with drainage on this concrete pad because it was designed as the concrete pad for a skating rink. It could be simply fixed by adding a few drains. For some reason this is a complicated process.
The BMX Bike Park is owned and was built by a private individual - Michael Heaton - who, despite his good will, and dedication to the sport of BMX, and offering his park to any kid who wants to ride it... continues to be out of pocket for the maintenance of this park -- especially the unexpected cost of approximately $7000.00 from an Easter Weekend fire at the park.
Donations can be made by the public to help with the rebuilding costs at any TD Canada Trust Bank branch transit # 1304, Account # 6350692. Reference the "BMX Bike Park Fire Damage Rebuilding Fund".

Thank you to the donors to date. We don't know who many of you are.. and we are told that two more cheques from Toronto Sun readers of Toronto Sun Columnist Mike Strobel are being forwarded to the Toronto Crime Stoppers office to be deposited into the account.
A special thank you to the community board of directors of Toronto Crime Stoppers for adding $1000.00 to buy wood for this rebuilding.
Please consider contributing so we can meet our goal of rebuilding the BMX Bike Park after a fire damaged about $5,000.00 worth of BMX Bike Ramps, and about $2,000.00 of plywood that was in a pile waiting to assemble for the kids to ride for the summer season at the Wallace Emerson Community Centre, 1260 Dufferin St, Toronto, ON Canada.
Anyone needing more information on this project can contact Constable Scott Mills at Toronto Crime Stoppers office 416-808-7260.

A Toronto BMX Park gets kickstart from Toronto Crime Stoppers to help rebuild after fire
A Toronto BMX Park gets kickstart from Toronto Crime Stoppers to help rebuild after fire Broadcast time: 14:30 Thursday, April 10, 2008 Crime Stoppers 416−808−7260
On Thursday, April 10, 2008, Toronto Crime Stoppers presented a cheque for $1,000 to help rebuild the BMX Park that was largely destroyed by fire on Friday, March 21, 2008. The damage is estimated to be in the thousands.
Wallace Emerson Park, 1260 Dufferin Street, has been the home of an incredible BMX Park.
To a large, and growing, population of young people it means the world. It's a place of dreams, where you can emulate someone you look up to, pull off an amazing move or create one of your own. It's a place to meet and spend time with people who share the same passion, to come and dream of one day being just like them, or even better.
You may have seen this same BMX park and not even realized it. It was built to be completely transportable and was the centrepiece at the 2007 Grey Cup BMX Park Youth Engagement Project, which was outside the Rogers Centre during the four−day lead−up to the big game. It was also used in the Toronto BMX Jam 08, held at this year's International Toronto Bicycle Show at the Direct Energy Centre.
"Adults working with youth are doing positive activities together in their community. What more could you possibly ask for," said Constable Scott Mills, the Toronto Crime Stoppers School Officer.
"This project has gone a long way to build trust between the youth and police and has a great deal to do with the large increase in the number of Toronto Crime Stoppers received over the past year."
Toronto Crime Stoppers received 7,555 tips in 2007, a record number of tips since it began in Toronto in 1984. That was up from 6,876in 2006.
"I'm reminded of the movie "Field of Dreams" when I think of this BMX Park" said Detective Larry Straver, the Co−ordinator of Toronto Crime Stoppers.
"If you build it, they will come." "This park was built with passion, commitment, and determination.
It was always about the kids. The creator, Michael Heaton, has spent countless hours, not to mention a lot of his own money, working alongside kids and volunteers. Not only did they build it, but all the ramps were painted with some incredible artwork. They built it...now they need the people to come and help keep this dream alive." The City of Toronto, Argos' Foundation, N.F.M. Trucking, Canadian Tire, RONA, I.C.I Paints, J.P. Towing CommunityCave, CSI, are just a few of the organizations and companies that have been involved with the BMX park in some way.
For a glimpse into what has transpired over the life of this park, you can view it all on Youtube at:
www.youtube.com/torontoBMX
Toronto Crime Stoppers would like to ask everyone to please help rebuild the BMX Park.
A trust fund has been setup by Humber College Police Foundation students http://csicommunity.com and http://communitycave.com . You can make your donation at any TD Canada Trust branch.
Transit Number: 1304 Account Number: 6350692
Toronto Crime Stoppers would also like to encourage anyone who may have information about the fire to call Detective Gord Scott at 416−808−1410 or, if you wish to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 416−222−TIPS(8477) or leave us a tip online at http://222tips.com
