Are We Awake Ready and Educated
for autism?

I have now devoted my free time, to ensure that my community is accepting of my daughter, and all people with differences.

I also want to make the world aware of the early signs of autism, and the importance of early intervention.

I am on a journey, together with my autistic daughter. I am learning so much about the world, through her eyes.

Jade is making amazing progress, and we owe this to early intervention, acceptance, and love. We are lucky, as once we learned the signs, we knew what was going on with our little girl, and could help her, and understand her. Jade was diagnosed with classic autism at age 1 (22 mos).

If your baby shows any of these signs, please ask your pediatrician or family practitioner for an immediate evaluation:

-No big smiles or other warm, joyful expressions by six months or thereafter

-No back-and-forth sharing of sounds, smiles, or other facial expressions by nine months or thereafter

-No babbling by 12 months

-No back-and-forth gestures, such as pointing, showing, reaching, or waving by 12 months

-No words by 16 months

-No two-word meaningful phrases (without imitating or repeating) by 24 months

-Any loss of speech or babbling or social skills at any age

I really enjoyed your videos, I have a three year old son who was recently diagnosed with autism and a slew of other disabilities, I am ashamed to say I was in the dark about autism before the diagnoses and am now trying to take as much information in as possible, and your videos help me to see there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

hi I like your videos are great it really taught me alot about autism. .I have a question for you if you don't mind.
Well I have a 18 month old son and he does not speak that well yet he says momma, dadda & pappa. He does the spinning thing but only when theres music playing, he responds to his name being called though, but it kind of makes me wonder because he doesnt make sentences or say other words other than the ones i mentioned above. Can you please let me know on what you think?
thank you!

dang, my last comment didn't show. Ethan is my autistic son, he is the one on the left in this pic, and his brother Nick is on the right (he is NT)

God bless you for spreading the word about autism. I remember when I was in college to major in music (music therapy) they were teaching us about autistic children. I didn't know what autism was, didn't care, and decided I would never work with autistics.

Then Ethan came along. WHAM. And another WHAM. And for good measure - WHAM.

God bless you

Loving your intelligent and imformative vids on autism. I have two autistic cousins myself and find the whole subject fascinating.
Hope Jade is doing well and best wishes for the future.

I was watching a tv show the other day and the topic was autism. I did not realize how common it is becoming and I dont think anyone can pinpoint a cause. ..right? Also I am sorry to admit that I did not realize that these children could still be so vibrant and aware. There needs to be more information about autism for parents and/or parents to be. What makes me happy is to see Jade and other children so lucky to have patient, caring parents. I think it makes a world of difference and will help them lead fulfilling lives.

Hi again,

I am just wondering what kind of therapies Jade has had? We still don't have a diagnosis for Ruby, but we're guessing she is somewhere on the spectrum. Our pediatrician spoke about ABA and I'm so unsure about it. Did Jade do ABA and if so did it help her a lot? Also, did Jade ever have a speech delay? I am just looking for ways to help Ruby at home and seeing Jade is so inspirational. Ruby still loves to watch her videos.

Thanks!
Michelle
