"TRUTH IS TREASON IN THE EMPIRE OF LIES"
- Ron Paul, 'The Revolution - A Manifesto' (2008)
You don't have to be "eurosceptic" to oppose the Lisbon Treaty (the EU Constitution). You can believe in a Europe without internal borders, in the four freedoms of movement, in a single market, without believing in a centralised EU State disguised as a "federation". The aims for the 'future of Europe' are blueprinted in the rejected Constitutional Treaty and its re-written version, the rejected Lisbon Treaty. This future is a hybrid totalitarian system incorporating both the increasingly imperial and tyrannical US model and the defunct Soviet structure.
The EU replaces democracy with bureaucracy and ultimate totalitarianism.
If you love Europe then you want it to be based on democratic principles, not on the principles of unelected supranational bureaucrats. A Free Europe means allowing more diversity and freedom by ensuring that the 27 national parliaments and the peoples they represent hold real power over the governance of their countries and the single market in general.
A free European area does not require full harmonisation of laws, for diversity and flexibility are crucial to social and economic progression. It does not need civil servants regulating the economy from Brussels, which can only lead to stagnation for economic planning does NOT work. It does not require centralised supranational bodies, like Europol, Eurojust or a European Public Prosecutor. Liaison and cooperation in such matters suffice. The EU does not need to become a single military power. Voluntary military alliances worked fine when Europeans fought eachother; they should work fine if a member state is threatened by forces outside the Union.
The Lisbon Treaty establishes the Union as an interventionist power that seeks to police the world through force.
A Union of Free States is only possible if no central authority is empowered to govern. Yet the Lisbon Treaty creates a new EU with a central authority that is not only empowered to govern the Union, but is also empowered to self-empower without the consent of the peoples of Europe. The Lisbon treaty is a self-amending treaty. When the EU Council desires, it is amended without EU summits, referendums or ratifications.
That is a very dangerous form of power, as history has supposedly taught us. But are the people aware?
