Thanks for posting these Siskel & Ebert episodes...They are truly wonderful.
I remember watching some of the shows when I was kid and I have forgotten how insightful and thoughtful these two guys are about movies. I am always conflicted on whether or not Gene or Roger is right in their review. I also watch Ebert and Roper, but it's not the same (I think you will agree) without Gene Siskel...he is sadly missed. I am very glad you have the reviews as your collection and you made the effort of sharing it with us...Many Thanks. : ) |

I'm going to say this, "Who cares about what Roeper said?" He's just a dumb critic who doesn't know the hell is he talking about! He's not funny, his voice is so annoying it makes me cringe, and most of his reviews are far worse than the way he speaks.
In fact, never like him the first time he appeared on the show. Long live Gene Siskel! Sure, I disagree about some of the reviews he gave that I enjoy but at least he had more intelligent than Roeper ever does. |

jedijones:
Roeper clearly stated on the show he thinks it is the best-worst movie ever made. In other words, it is terrible, but of all the terrible movies that have been made, The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is the best one. Again, he liked it because he felt it had a high entertainment value. Forget the word "terrible." Terrible, worst, awful, horrible, sucks, bad, atrocious; they pretty much all mean bad. |
||
|
Kriver001, please give me the exact quote when Roeper says Kingdom is "terrible." I doubt you can because certainly on his TV review he never uses that word or any other word so critical. Certainly Kingdom is not the most perfect Indy film and the script suffered from the same unchecked "throw in everything but the kitchen sink" ambition that Spider-Man 3 did, but the movie has a lot of exciting action scenes, many jaw-dropping special effects, effective performances including Cate Blanchett playing the single most entertaining villain of the Indy series, good moments of humor, a fast pace, etc. As for Mutt's swinging, it's a well-placed homage to the old Tarzan serials and a clever way to show him learn one of Indy's skills, swinging, as done on whips or vines. Remember, Indy himself swang on a vine while escaping the Hovitos so it was as much a homage to the Indy series as it was to one of its serial roots.

JediJones:
"Hey, now, both Ebert and Roeper recommended Kingdom of the Crystal Skull." Roeper stated that he thinks it is a terrible film, but recommended it only because he thought it was entertaining. Ebert can change into a 10 year old every once in a while and enjoy mindless entertainment; check out his review of the awful Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow. |

Kingdom is an artistic disaster. There is no plot, no character development, and the relationships between the characters are either not developed well or are pretty much non-existent. Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is just a bunch of stupid CGI action scenes thrown together carelessly and mindlessly. The film has no direction; it has no beginning, no middle, and no end and does not know where it is going. The screenplay is not only poorly written, but the movie makes no sense. It is amazingly stupid, especially the time traveling alien in the flying saucer and Indiana's son turning into Tarzan mid way through. It has no good action scenes; there is so much CGI you cannot tell what is going on. And can anyone believe an old Indy can do the things he did twenty years earlier?
