Nigerian students rise to the robotics challenge
When ITU Deputy Secretary-General, Tomas Lamanauskas, visited Government Secondary School Gwarinpa, Lifecamp, in Abuja, Nigeria, ITU took the opportunity to speak to students participating in the ITU Robotics for Good Youth Challenge, who shared their ideas and motivation with us. ITU launched the Robotics for Good Youth Challenge in April 2024 to promote robotics and coding among youth worldwide, ensuring that no one is left behind in the robotics and AI revolution. This leading UN-based educational robotics championship is inspired each year by a global challenge, where robots offer practical solutions to advance the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Teams from around the world are invited to design, build, and program robots to tackle SDG related challenges. In its inaugural edition (2024–2025), the competition is being held in over 25 countries through national and regional events. The year-long competition culminates in the prestigious Robotics for Good Youth Challenge Grand Finale, hosted by the ITU at the AI for Good Global Summit in Geneva, Switzerland. This event will showcase the winners of each Robotics for Good Youth Challenge “Local Chapter” National Event, bringing together the most innovative young minds to present their cutting-edge robotic solutions.   This initiative aligns with Resolution 198 (Rev. Bucharest, 2022) of the ITU Plenipotentiary Conference, which focuses on empowering youth through telecommunications and information and communication technology (ICT). It aims to engage young people through outreach, communication, capacity building, and research, with a strong emphasis on digital inclusion. #aiforgood #robotics http://www.itu.int Directed and Filmed by: Maximillian Jacobson - Gonzalez Edited by: Jennifer MacLeod
