The 'Made Easy' series is designed to explain the evidence that shows how we got here, from the Big bang to human migration out of Africa, and to counter the unsupported idea that this somehow happened through the power of an invisible being. A better quality version will soon be available for free download from a website -- details to be announced. I will be happy to send DVDs free of charge to schools after the series is finished.

The 'Made Easy' series of videos can be freely copied and distributed for educational purposes, but cannot be used for commercial gain in whole or in part. They cannot be altered, transformed or added to. If you use repost these videos you must attribute them to 'Potholer54 on YouTube."
Name: Potholer
I've been a journalist for 20 years, 14 years as a science correspondent. My degree is in geology, but while working for a science magazine and several science programs I had to tackle a number of different fields, from quantum physics to microbiology.

POSTING: Anyone is free to post on the fora, and ALL views are welcome. You won't find that on most fundamentalist channels, but I have nothing to fear from open discussion or criticism. However, my tolerance has been abused by people whose sole object is to disrupt the channel, so reluctantly I have now had to ban three people from participating. Just so you can't say you weren't warned, here are my criteria for banning:
1) Advertisements. My channel is not a free billboard.
2) Plagiarism. If you copy and paste someone else's work, don't pretend that the writing is yours. Put it in quotation marks and give the author credit. Hard to believe, but the fundamentalists who have done this cannot understand when I explain that what they are doing is deceitful and intellectually shallow. If you understand so little, don't just cheat and copy from someone else. Learn some facts, then use your own arguments. 3) Spam. I know it's fun to disrupt the fora by copying and pasting huge chunks of text again and again. Going back over a point you made earlier is fine, but mindlessly spamming the same post repeatedly will no longer be tolerated.

This series explains the scientific evidence for our origins, from the Big Bang to the human migration out of Africa, in a way that most 7th-graders would understand. It challenges people who believe we were created by a deity 6,000 years ago to confront the evidence instead of ignoring it.

A DVD (including corrections) will be available for schools and educational groups. I alko hope to have a better quality version of the series available for download.

Science question: your recent video about climate change was excellent and I have passed it on to some friends who are skeptics as an example of a non-partisan, fair approach. Anyway, you mention that the radiation from the sun enters the atmosphere at a short wavelength and then some of it returns at a longer wavelength, having lost energy. It is this longer wavelength that is absorbed into airborne gases and causes the Greenhouse Effect. However, this seems to contradict an argument I have heard against the paranoia that surrounds radiation from mobile phones damaging the user of the phone. I have been led to understand that the reason that the radiation from mobile phones is harmless is because the wavelength emitted is too long to influence the matter in your brain/body etc. So is it a short or a long wavelength that is absorbed by a molecule? Have I heard a bad explanation of the argument about mobile phones, or have I simply misunderstood or ignored a more subtle effect?

Brilliant work. Thanks. As cell biologist Ken Miller (Brown University) said in a talk at Case Western University, "everything is at stake" as we determine whether scientific thinking or magical thinking will prevail among the people who invented modern science.

Finally, I no longer have to dig around wikipedia and scientific papers to find the specifics of how theories work so I can counter the ad ignorantium arguments of Creationists. Your videos are much appreciated, and I dare say I have learned more from a few of your videos than I have in several of my school-years.

You've got some great videos. but i was wondering if you could make a video which would easily explain how one celled organisms evolve into multicellar organisms.

Isn't it obvious Jesus can wash away your sins with his blood? How do you not see that? There's a place for people like you. On the god damn podium on Sundays setting churchies straight. FIGHT FIGHT NEVER SURRENDER!!!! (sean connery -first knight)

Hey potholer, just got done with your playlist of "Made Easy" videos and can't thank you enough. For someone like myself who doesn't have a strong science background (high school and one general biology class in college), it's an invaluable resource.
