Simulation of Evolution by Natural Selection (53 minutes ago)
If you want to see something that is actually an attempt to demonstrate evolution as it happens in the real world, the channels cdk007 and potholer54 are a better place to look. Natural selection is a fact, even creationists admit this, they just don't believe it can account for "macro-evolution". Do you accept the existence of so called "micro-evolution" by natural selection? Like the way the overuse of antibiotics has created more resistant strains of bacteria?

Kirk, this simulation isn't meant to represent how real animals evolve. It's merely a simulation of natural selection working in a virtual environment. It's not supposed to be any kind of representation of reality. In fact, it's just meant to demonstrate the ability of darwinian algorithms to generate novel designs. These approaches have been used to optimise designs of aircraft wings for example. The only similarity to real evolution is the process of random variation and selection.

... it's basically like saying, all the suffering in the world is just, because there is a just ruler of the universe. If the all powerful ruler of the universe is just, then so is all the terrible suffering endured by all animals since the beginning of life. This is not the statement that entitles the speaker to be protected from criticism. It's an astonishing statement that says a lot about the person saying it. You were far from inappropriate to Veritas, you were overly kind.

I guess I'm just an incurable optimist. People rarely admit it when you nail them with a subtle point of logic, but sometimes it plants a seed of doubt. Sometimes I respond on a public forum not so much for the benefit of the questioner, but for anyone watching the argument who might be on the fence.

It may be that there are many who are too deeply invested in their lies to admit it now, like a gambler putting more and more coins into a slot machine, because if he walks away now, it will be admitting that it was stupid to start gambling in the first place. Absurd beliefs end when the last proponent simply dies of old age, after the ideas have been so exposed to the light that no-one from the next generation would adopt them. I hope we can yet see a future not unlike Roddenberry's vision. Hope is better than faith.

The only way to combat logic and reason is to block it completely. Obviously, theists have no concrete facts to support their position and, on some level, they have to be aware of this fact. What could you have been thinking when you tries using logic and reason against a philosophy which is based upon neither? :)
