So...after spending 20-30 hours editing/creating the DVD for this year's Broadway Bares I wanted to do something for me (for ME!). And after hearing "Same Old Story" from Cyndi Lauper's new CD (buy it!), I was inspired to do this video: the lyrics just spoke to me and reflected the theme of this year's show ("Wonderland").
Please note that this video does not appear on the DVD, nor was the song used in the show. It's 100% my creation (for better or worse).
Also please note that if you like the BC/EFA events and want to buy them on DVD, make sure you buy them through either Broadway Beat's website or at the Broadway Flea Market. Anybody else selling them is pirating them and cheating BC/EFA out of money (and deserves to burn in Musical Theatre Hell listening to nothing but "This Is The Moment" for all eternity)

Here's a fascinating clip from the Gypsy Rose Lee Show in which Gypsy Rose Lee is interviewing the woman who played her mother on stage, Ethel Merman. I'm guessing that the interview is from 1965, when Gypsy Rose Lee had a show.
The most interesting thing about the clip, aside from the fact that Gypsy talks at length about her relationship with her mother, is that it contains film footage from a rehearsal of the musical, "Gypsy" (written by Stephen Sondheim, Jule Styne and Arthur Arthur Laurents and currently back on Broadway with a Patti someone-or-other)

Here's a clip from "Over Easy", the PBS series that Mary co-hosted with Jim Hartz (thanks showbizhistorian for the info). In it, Mary Martin interviews longtime friend and co-star (in concerts and TV appearances) Ethel Merman. The clip ends with Mary and Ethel singing a take on Irving Berlin's "Anything You Can Do I Can Do Better."

Here is the performance of the Los Angeles cast of the Broadway musical, "Hair," performing on the Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour.
The cast is led by the show's creators, Gerome Ragni & James Rado, Among the cast members in that production whom I believe are in the video are Meatloaf, Ted Neeley, Ben Vereen (I was told Andre de Shields was in this as well). Songs performed are "Aquarius," Hair," and the finale ("The Flesh Failures/Let the Sun Shine In")
I've included the opening remarks by the Smothers Brothers as I think they provide an invaluable backdrop into the history of the piece (and it was very brave of them to have this piece on TV, as the show was constantly being shut down on decency charges)
The broadcast date was December 8, 1968

Here's an oddity - the late, great Ethel Merman singing "A Lot Of Livin' To Do" from the Broadway Musical "Bye Bye Birdie"
I have no idea what show it's from. But there are some new lyrics (to make it make sense for a middle age woman to sing it, instead of a male pop icon)
