Families, Not Orphanages | Child's i Foundation
Uganda has the highest number of children living in orphanages in East Africa. 5% are children with disabilities. Every day, vulnerable families are forced to give up their children because they cannot meet their basic needs. COVID-19 has greatly increased this risk. The pandemic has impacted livelihoods, employment and earnings, making it likely for more children to be placed in orphanages. Our already established community networks and volunteers like George have made it possible for us to remain on the frontline to respond and provide much needed support to families in crisis. “I became a community volunteer because I saw many issues facing people within my community and I thought I could help support and be part of the solution so that we can bring change in the community.” Community volunteers are recruited, trained and supervised by our qualified social workers. “We link people in the community with government services, including schools, hospitals, churches and local councillors”. Your investment in our Active Family and Community Support work will make it possible for us to recruit, train and coordinate more volunteers like George that will strengthen communities so that children can grow up in safe and loving families. It's all about families. Not orphanages. Learn more at www.childsifoundation.org Today, more than ever, children need safe and loving families. Community volunteers are at the frontline of response for children and families at risk. They tend to be respected individuals who live in communities alongside children and families who need support. They are trained by our team of social workers to identify vulnerable families and children and educate communities on the importance of children growing up in families, not orphanages.
